Having a math problem? Stuck in the ‘I have to do my math homework’ phase, because you keep stalling till the last minute? Trust us when we tell you that we have been in the same position you are in right now, and like you, we have also smacked our heads against the wall and did silly things to try to solve our math problem.

But not anymore, because nowadays you can get online math help! There are lots of software out there now that can help you with your math problem, and plenty of sites that update daily tips and tricks about math and how to solve problems.

Some sites can even solve your problem automatically when you enter your problem as input. Such a site is referred to as a step by step math solver. Having such sites is a huge relief to some students, as they no longer have to bash their heads in frustration, they can just find their mathematical solutions online.

One type of math problem that students have difficulty with is “solving equations.” The four simplest types of equations are basic equations, one-step equations, two-step equations, and three-step equations.

  1. The basic math equation:

    The basis for solving mathematical equations is to understand the basic rules of math and to follow prescribed steps and formulas to a “t”. Every prescribed step or formula will apply some mathematical rule or fact to simplify the equation and get it closer to the solution.

    And, the penultimate simplification will involve the “basic math equation”, which is an expression such as x = 2 + 2 that contains a variable by itself, an equal sign, and some combination of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of numbers, and performing these arithmetic processes will solve the problem (eg, x = 4).

  2. Solving one-step equations:

    One-step equations are solved using Algebra, wherein you perform one step to turn the equation you have into a basic equation.

    Here is an example of a one-step equation:
    Y + 10 = 90
    Here we have to find the value of Y. What we have to do is perform the step “Subtract 10 from both sides” so as to place the numbers on one side of the equation.
    Y + 10 = 90
    Y + 10 – 10 = 90 – 10
    Y = 90 – 10
    See how it took one step to arrive at a basic equation? Next, let’s solve the basic equation.
    Y = 80.

    Tip: In an equation, to remove a number that is operating on a variable, you must apply the opposite operation to both sides of the equation. For instance, in the example above, the number 10 was adding to the variable Y, so to remove it to the other side of the equal sign, we had to do the opposite of adding by subtracting 10 from both sides.

  3. Solving two-step equations:

    Two-step equations are also solved using algebraic methods. But this time, you will need to carry out two steps to arrive at a basic equation.

    Here is an example laid out for you:
    6x + 2 = 26
    Here, you are asked to find the value of x. This is two-step math.
    6x + 2= 26
    The first step is to undo the addition by subtracting 2 from both sides.
    6x + 2 – 2 = 26 – 2
    6x = 24
    The second step is to undo the multiplication by dividing both sides by 6.
    6x/6 = 24/6
    x = 24/6
    We’ve arrived at a basic equation after applying the 2 steps. Now, let’s solve.
    x = 4.

    As it was with one-step equations, solving two-step equations involves putting the numbers on one side of the equal sign and the variable(s) on the other side. And like I mentioned in the tip above, placing a number on the other side of an equal sign requires applying to each side the opposite operation to the one the number is involved in.

    If it is addition then apply subtraction, and vice versa, and if it is multiplication then apply division, and vice versa. Just make sure to apply addition or subtraction in the first step and multiplication or division in the second step.

  4. Solving three-step equations:

    This is a multi-step equation from Algebra. Let’s jump right into it.
    6x + 2 = 3x + 17
    The value of x needs to get solved. It will take 3 steps to get there.
    6x + 2 = 3x + 17
    Step 1, get the variables on one side by applying an opposite operation to both sides.
    6x + 2 – 3x = 3x + 17 – 3x
    3x + 2 = 17
    Step 2, start getting the numbers on one side by applying an opposite operation to both sides. Remember, addition or subtraction is first up.
    3x + 2 – 2 = 17 – 2
    3x = 15
    Step 2, finish getting the numbers on one side by applying an opposite operation to both sides. Multiplication or division is second up.
    3x/3 = 15/3
    x = 15/3
    At last, a basic equation! See how it took us three steps to get it? Now let’s solve.
    x = 5.

Essentially, what we did was put all the “x”s together on one side and the numbers on the other side of the equal sign. And from there, solving was simple.

Conclusion:

Doing maths is no fun, but when you have maths online answers, then worry not. Those online answers are your guide to scoring well in mathematics.
